Can ChatGPT or Claude help you train for Mallorca 312?

Yes. ChatGPT or Claude can help you choose between the 167, 226 and 312 km routes, plan a winter build towards a long mountain day and turn the cut-offs into a pace you can hold. It needs your FTP and when you tested it, your longest recent rides and the hours you can train.

Athmex keeps those in one athlete profile that ChatGPT or Claude can use in every conversation. The assistant gives the advice; Athmex keeps the context current.

Your recent rides belong in the conversation too

A Mallorca build runs through winter, mostly indoors or in the cold. The useful questions come from the gap between the plan and the riding you actually did.

When your rides reach ChatGPT or Claude through your training platform’s own connection, your coach can see how the long days and the climbing are building, and what your power looked like on them. Routes differ by platform and by assistant.

Athmex doesn’t import activity. It keeps the context those rides are read against: your event, route, FTP, weight, weekly hours and constraints. Build your free athlete profile and Athmex will show you the best available way to bring your rides into ChatGPT or Claude for your setup.

In ChatGPT or Claude

One coaching conversation that can use both when you ask about your Mallorca build.

One entry, three distances: choosing on the road

You don’t enter a distance. Everyone starts together and chooses on the road: the 167 turns for home after the first block of mountains, near 97 km, and the 226 leaves the 312 near 193 km. You can change your mind without telling anyone, provided you’re inside the cut-offs.

The finish limits change how that choice works. The 167 and 226 both close at 5pm, but the 226 is 59 km longer. From a 7am start, the averages you need, stops included, look like this.

RouteClimbingFinish closesAverage needed from a 7am start
167 km2,475 m5pmAbout 16.7 km/h
226 kmNot published separately5pmAbout 22.6 km/h
312 km5,050 m8.40pmAbout 22.8 km/h

So the 226 isn’t a gentler 312. It asks for almost the same speed, for three and a half hours less. The real decision comes at the first split: if you can’t hold about 23 km/h through the mountains, the 167 is the ride. The second split is about whether you have those extra hours in you.

Where the climbing is

The organiser’s 2026 profile puts 5,050 m of climbing into the 312, and nearly all of it falls before about 160 km. Every route crosses the Serra de Tramuntana first: up the Coll de Femenia, then on to the highest point at Puig Major, 899 m, which the road reaches at 55 km. The stretch from the Gorg Blau feed at 50 km to the top was a timed segment.

After the long descent from Puig Major to Sóller, the 312 and 226 climb again through the west of the island. Beyond Sa Granja at 158 km, the 312 crosses the flatter interior and the east, through Lloseta, Ariany and Artà. That last 150 km is about rhythm, wind and riding in a group, not climbing.

The cut-offs, and the pace they really ask for

The 2027 rules fix the finish limits and say intermediate cut-offs appear in the route schedule, with a minimum average speed for each. Riders behind the minimum pace, or passed by the end-of-event vehicle, are out of the ride. In 2026 the 312 schedule looked like this.

Second cut-off2184.40pm
Artà2857.55pm
Finish, Platja de Muro3128.50pm in 2026; 8.40pm in the 2027 rules

The first one is the hardest to make. From a 7am start you have four hours and twenty minutes for 97 km with Femenia and Puig Major in it. Ask ChatGPT or Claude to work out your climbing speed at a sustainable power from your FTP and weight, then check whether it leaves room for a stop at Gorg Blau.

If you withdraw within the time limit, the organiser’s bus and support vehicle take you and your bike to the finish.

FTP, W/kg and pacing a 10 to 14 hour day

On the climbs, your speed depends on watts per kilogram; on the flat second half of the 312, it depends far more on your group and your aerodynamics. A rider at 3.5 W/kg and one at 2.8 W/kg can finish together if the lighter, stronger climber spends the afternoon alone in the wind.

A common approach is to hold the long climbs well below threshold, often around three-quarters of FTP, so the legs still work at 250 km. That only means something if the FTP is current. Keep it in Athmex with the date you tested it, and a stale or estimated FTP stops quietly rescaling every number in the plan.

Bikes must be conventional road bikes with two brakes. Time trial and triathlon bikes with extensions, fixed gears and e-bikes aren’t allowed, and a helmet is compulsory.

Building towards a late-April mountain day

A late-April date means the build sits in winter. Long outdoor rides are hard to come by in January, so the plan has to use indoor sessions for climbing-specific work and save the weekend for duration.

MonthWhat the training is for
December and JanuaryConsistency and aerobic volume. Indoor sessions for sustained climbing efforts of 20 to 40 minutes.
FebruaryLong rides past four hours where weather allows. Practise eating on the bike every ride.
MarchBack-to-back long days, longer climbs and a retest of FTP to set race pacing.
Early AprilThe longest ride of the build, close to your target time on the bike for the 167 or 226.
Last two weeksTaper, travel with the bike, and the day’s pacing and feeding plan settled.

Hours matter more than any single session. Tell ChatGPT or Claude what you can actually train each week and it can shape the months around that, rather than a template written for someone with twice the time.

Feeding a day of up to 14 hours

In 2026 the solid-food stops on the 312 were at Gorg Blau (50 km), Sa Bastida (101 km), Coll des Pi (114 km), Es Capdellà (137 km), Sa Granja (158 km), Lloseta (194 km) and Ariany (244 km), with mechanical help at the aid stations. On the 167, the stops were at Gorg Blau, around 99 km and at Lloseta (135 km).

Carbohydrate is what runs out. Many endurance riders aim for somewhere around 60 to 90 grams an hour once they have trained their gut to take it. Practise the amount, the food and the timing on long winter rides, and keep your plan in the event’s notes in Athmex so every conversation starts from it.

Entry, the waiting list and race weekend

General entry for 2027 has opened, and the organiser now runs a waiting list. It also sells entries with accommodation, and opens an official marketplace for resold entries from 1 December to 31 March. Athmex doesn’t sell or manage entries.

Bibs are collected at the event expo on Avenida s’Albufera in Platja de Muro on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 April, from 9am to 9pm, in person only. Plan to arrive by Thursday, build the bike and ride an easy hour before the day.

The questionShould I commit to the 312 or decide at the split, and what power should I hold on Puig Major?

A useful answer starts from 245 W at 74 kg, works out a climbing speed at about three-quarters of FTP, and checks it against the 97 km cut-off. It explains that the 226 needs almost the 312’s pace, so the split at 97 km is the real decision, and plans the winter around nine hours a week.

Climbing training with ChatGPT or Claude covers the sustained efforts this build needs.

Questions to bring back during the build

A Mallorca build runs from midwinter to late April. These are the moments to come back, with the question you might ask.

After an FTP retest

I tested at 258 W today. Save it, then tell me what that changes for the cut-off at 97 km.

A dated FTP changes every target in the plan. Save it in Athmex and later answers use it. Raising FTP with ChatGPT or Claude covers the testing.

When winter takes the long ride

It’s icy all weekend. How do I replace a five-hour ride indoors?

The assistant can split it, swap days or trade duration for a harder indoor session. Indoor cycling with ChatGPT or Claude covers the options.

After the longest ride

I rode 230 km with 3,400 m in nine and a half hours. Is the 312 still realistic?

A real long day is the best evidence for the choice at the first split. Save it, and update the goal in Athmex if the answer changes.

In race week

I fly on Thursday. Plan my last five days, the feeds I’ll use and my power for the first 97 km.

Race week is about arriving fresh, with the bike built, the bib collected and the day’s plan settled. What to tell ChatGPT or Claude before the day lists what the conversation needs.

Where AI help stops

ChatGPT or Claude can misjudge a goal, plan more climbing than your body can absorb or rescale a whole block from a stale FTP, so read its plan critically and check it against how you feel.

Descending, bunch riding and mountain weather are skills and judgements no chat can practise for you. Pain, illness, fainting or anything medical needs a doctor. No AI can examine you.

Mallorca 312 questions

Can ChatGPT make a Mallorca 312 training plan?

Yes. ChatGPT or Claude can draft and adapt a Mallorca 312 plan. It’s more useful when it knows your route choice, FTP with its test date, weight, longest recent rides and weekly hours. Athmex keeps those ready.

When is Mallorca 312 in 2027?

Saturday 24 April 2027, starting and finishing at Platja de Muro. Riders start from 6.30am, and the last start by 7am.
