Raise your FTP with ChatGPT or Claude.

Every threshold session is a percentage of FTP, so the number the assistant uses decides whether the work is right. Athmex keeps your current FTP with its test date, your W/kg goal, weekly hours and constraints ready for ChatGPT or Claude.

Can ChatGPT help me raise my FTP?

Yes. ChatGPT or Claude can plan sweet spot, threshold and VO2 max work, explain why each session is there and adapt when you miss a day. It can only pitch those sessions correctly if it knows your current FTP, when and how you tested it, and how many hours you can ride.

Athmex keeps those numbers dated and current, so the assistant never plans from last season’s FTP by accident.

What ChatGPT or Claude should know before planning FTP training

FTP training is precise. Small errors in the inputs rescale every session.

Current FTP
The number, the date and how it was set: ramp test, 20-minute test or an estimate.
Weight
If W/kg matters to your goal. Leave it out if you’d rather.
Goal
A number, a W/kg target, or the event the FTP is for.
Weekly hours
How much time you have, and which days can take hard sessions.
Setup
Power meter, smart trainer or both, and whether key sessions are indoors.
Constraints
Recovery, work, injuries and anything else you train around.

Same FTP goal. Two very different blocks.

Both riders want a higher FTP. The right block depends on where each one is starting.

205 W, ramp test last week
Hours

History
Riding a year, little structure

Plenty of room to grow. Consistent sweet spot and endurance riding will likely do most of the work over eight to ten weeks.

Rider B

Two young children

Twenty watts is a big ask at this level. The assistant should retest first, then plan targeted threshold and VO2 max work around realistic recovery.

Both riders are illustrative. Neither plan is a prescription.

What FTP is, and why its date matters

Functional threshold power is roughly the highest power you can sustain for about an hour. Most structured cycling sessions are written as a percentage of it: sweet spot at about 88 to 94%, threshold efforts near 100%, VO2 max intervals well above.

FTP changes. After a winter off it drops; after a good block it rises. An assistant working from an old number will set every session too hard or too easy. The cycling guide walks through exactly how that goes wrong.

W/kg and when it matters

Watts per kilogram matters most on climbs, where you lift your own weight. For a flat time trial, absolute watts and aerodynamics matter more. An assistant needs to know which kind of riding your goal involves before it decides whether W/kg is the right target.

You don’t have to record weight in Athmex. If you do, keep it current; if you don’t, the assistant can still plan from absolute power.

What an FTP block usually contains

A typical block mixes endurance riding with two harder sessions a week: sweet spot or threshold intervals, and sometimes shorter efforts above threshold. The balance depends on your hours, your history and your event.

Retesting

Retest every six to eight weeks, or when sessions start to feel too easy. Tell ChatGPT or Claude the new result and ask it to update Athmex, so the next conversation uses it.

Estimated FTP versus tested FTP

Platforms such as Zwift, TrainerRoad and Intervals.icu estimate FTP from your rides. Estimates are useful, and they can disagree with each other and with a test. Keep the number you trust in Athmex and say which one to plan from.

Most riders train indoors for this kind of work. The indoor cycling page covers how to fit it around outdoor riding.

How recent power data improves an FTP conversation

Your profile holds the FTP you trust. Recent rides show how the sessions actually went.

Rides from a power meter or smart trainer can reach ChatGPT or Claude through routes some platforms support, so the assistant can see whether intervals were completed at target. Routes differ by platform and by assistant.

Athmex doesn’t import your rides. See the platform pages for Zwift, TrainerRoad, Wahoo and more.

Where AI FTP coaching has limits

An assistant can push too hard if you ask for fast gains, and FTP work is demanding. Persistent fatigue, poor sleep and falling power are signs to back off. Medical symptoms belong with a professional.

Questions riders ask

Can ChatGPT create an FTP training plan?

Yes. It can plan sweet spot, threshold and VO2 max work around your hours. It needs your current FTP with its test date, which Athmex keeps ready.

How often should I retest my FTP?

Every six to eight weeks during structured training is common, or sooner if sessions feel consistently too easy or too hard.

Should AI use my Zwift FTP estimate or my test result?

Tell it which you trust. Keep that number in Athmex with its date and method, and the assistant plans from it.

Give ChatGPT or Claude the FTP it should actually use.
