WHOOP Coach is good on the body side: how you slept, how recovered you are, how much strain you're carrying. A training decision also needs the other side. Is the race in six weeks or six months? Is your PB current? What was today's session meant to do? Athmex gives ChatGPT or Claude that side.

WHOOP Coach and ChatGPT or Claude, side by side

WHOOP Coach is a generative AI feature in the WHOOP app, built with OpenAI and available to WHOOP members. WHOOP says it combines its own algorithms and models with your biometric data, and it can draw on your Journal entries about daily habits.

ChatGPT and Claude can put a recovery score in context: 34% before an easy day is different from 34% before the key session of a marathon block. On their own they only know what you tell them. With Athmex they already know the race, the goal and the plan, so you only add today's numbers.

The same question, three ways

Take Dan, a hypothetical runner six weeks out from a marathon with a 3:28 goal. A tempo run is planned for today, his calf has been tight, and his WHOOP recovery this morning is 34%. He asks: should I still do it?

The same question answered three ways. Recovery is 34% this morning. Should I still do today's tempo run? whoop coach alone: Answers from your recovery, strain and sleep. What the tempo was for, and when the race is, you explain each time. chatgpt on its own: What's the tempo for, and how far are you from race day? Generic advice until you explain the plan. chatgpt with athmex: Knows: marathon in 6 weeks, 3:28 goal, tempo planned today, calf tightness. You add the 34%. Easy 40 minutes today. Tempo moves to Thursday if recovery picks up.

Dan asked the same thing each time. The answer that fitted his marathon came from the assistant that knew both his recovery and his plan.
