Train for time trials with ChatGPT or Claude.
A time trial is one steady, hard effort, held in a position you can sustain. Athmex keeps your FTP, target distance, course, TT position notes and weekly hours ready for ChatGPT or Claude, so pacing and training fit the race against the clock.
Can ChatGPT help me train for and pace a time trial?
Yes. ChatGPT or Claude can plan threshold work, efforts in the aero position and a pacing strategy for a given course. It needs your current FTP, the distance, the course profile, how long you can hold your TT position and the hours you train.
Athmex keeps that context ready in every conversation.
- Common distances
- 10 and 25 miles
- Effort
- at or near threshold
- Position
- aero
Common UK club distances. Courses, wind and position change what a time means.
What ChatGPT or Claude should know before planning TT training
A time trial is simple to describe and hard to do well. These details make the advice specific.
- Distance
- 10 miles, 25 miles, 40 km or a hill climb, with the date.
- Course
- Flat, rolling, or dragging; out-and-back or loop.
- FTP
- With its date. TT pacing is built around it.
- Position
- TT bike or clip-ons, and how long you can hold the position.
- Recent times
- Your PB and recent results on the same or similar courses.
- Constraints
- Neck, back or hip flexors in the aero position, and weekly hours.
Same 25-mile TT. Two very different riders.
Both are riding the same club 25-mile time trial in six weeks.
The same requestHelp me ride a faster 25-mile time trial.
Rider A
- FTP
- 260 W
- Position
- Clip-ons, holds 15 minutes
- PB
- 1:02:30
- Constraint
- Neck ache in the aero position
Position time is the limiter. Build tolerance with longer efforts on the aero bars before chasing more power.
Rider B
- FTP
- 300 W
- Position
- TT bike, holds the full hour
- PB
- 55:40
- Pacing
- Starts too hard every time
Pacing is the quick win. Even power, a slight lift on the drag and a disciplined first five minutes.
Both riders are illustrative. Neither plan is a prescription.
Even pacing is almost always faster
The most common TT mistake is going out too hard. An even effort, adjusted a little for hills and wind, gives the best time for most riders. With your FTP and the course, ChatGPT or Claude can set a target power range for each section.
Power you can produce in position
Power in the aero position is often lower than on the hoods. Training in position, and building the ability to hold it, is part of TT preparation. Record how long you can hold it in Athmex and update it as it improves.
Threshold is the engine
Most TTs from 10 to 25 miles are ridden close to threshold. The FTP page covers how to raise it. Longer events such as 50 or 100-mile TTs lean toward the long-distance side of training.
Time trialling for triathletes
A triathlon bike leg is a time trial with a run afterwards, so pacing is more conservative. The triathlon hub explains how assistants handle that.
How recent efforts improve a TT conversation
Your profile holds the FTP and course. Recent efforts show what you can hold in position.
Rides with power from Garmin, Wahoo, Strava or indoor platforms can reach ChatGPT or Claude through routes some platforms support. Routes differ by platform and by assistant.
Athmex doesn’t import your rides. See the platform pages.
Where AI TT coaching has limits
An assistant can’t see your position or measure your drag. A bike fitter is the right person for aero changes, and pain in position deserves a professional look.
Questions riders ask
Can ChatGPT help me pace a 10-mile time trial?
Yes. With your FTP and the course, it can suggest a target power range and how to handle hills and wind.
What power should I ride a 25-mile TT at?
Many riders hold around 95 to 100% of FTP for an hour-long effort. Your position, course and experience change that.
Can AI help me improve my aero position?
It can suggest how to train in position and hold it longer. Fit changes are best made with a bike fitter.
