Can ChatGPT or Claude help you train for the London Marathon?
Yes. ChatGPT or Claude can help you plan a London Marathon build, talk through long runs and pacing, rework a week when life gets in the way and prepare for race day. Its advice is only as specific as what it knows about you.
Athmex supplies that. You keep your race day, recent times, training days and constraints in one athlete profile, and ChatGPT or Claude can use it in every conversation. The assistant gives the advice; Athmex keeps the context current.

Your recent runs belong in the conversation too
Through a winter and spring build, many of the useful questions come from the gap between the plan and the running you actually did.
When your recent runs reach ChatGPT or Claude through your training platform’s own connection, your coach can check how the long runs are building and whether last week went as planned. Routes differ by platform and by assistant.
Athmex doesn’t import activity. It keeps the context those runs are read against: your race day, goal, recent times and training week. Start your free trial and Athmex will show you the best available way to bring your runs into ChatGPT or Claude for your setup.
From Athmex
Your race day, goal, PBs, threshold, training days, injuries and constraints.
From your training platform
The runs you’ve done, from Garmin, COROS, Strava and others, where a route exists for your setup.
In ChatGPT or Claude
One coaching conversation that can use both when you ask about your London build.
The 2027 race runs over two days. Plan from yours.
The 2027 London Marathon is spread over Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 April. Each runner is given one of the two days, so the date that matters is the one on your entry, not the date you might assume from earlier years.
Put that date into your plan from the start. It sets how many weeks you have, where the last long runs fall and when the taper begins. A Saturday race also moves race week a day earlier, including travel, the last easy run and the meals before it.
Store London and its date as your race in Athmex, and ChatGPT or Claude knows how far out you are without being told. If your day isn’t confirmed yet, say so, and update the race when it is.

What to bring to your London training conversation
The facts that turn a generic marathon plan into one built around you. Save them once in Athmex rather than retyping them.

- Race day
- Saturday 24 or Sunday 25 April, whichever your entry gives you.
- Goal
- Finish, enjoy the day, a round-number time or a specific target.
- Recent races
- Half-marathon, 10K or previous marathon times, each with its date. An old PB describes old fitness.
- Current running
- How many days a week you run now and how long you’ve been running consistently.
- Available days
- The days you can really train, and where a long run fits around work and family.
- Fixed sessions
- Club nights, a Saturday parkrun, a run commute or anything else already in your week.
- Constraints
- Injuries and niggles, travel, shift patterns and other sports the build has to fit around.
One London runner, one useful question
An illustrative runner, not a real athlete or customer. This is the kind of profile ChatGPT or Claude can work from before the runner types a word.
The questionIs sub-4 realistic for London, and how should my long runs work around my late-shift weeks?
A useful answer starts from the 1:52:40 half rather than the goal, so it can say plainly whether sub-4 is within reach or tight. It counts back from a Saturday race, moves long runs on late-shift weeks instead of dropping them, and builds distance with the calf in mind.

Questions to bring back during the build
A London build runs for months, and the useful conversations happen when something changes. These are the moments to come back, with the question you might ask.
When your week changes
I’m away for work for ten days in February. What should I protect, and what can I drop?
A short disruption needs a sensible rework of the next few weeks. If the change lasts, such as a new shift pattern, update your training days in Athmex so later conversations plan around the week you really have. Why an AI plan ignores your schedule explains what goes wrong when it doesn’t know.
After a preparation race
I ran 1:49:50 at my half on Sunday. Update my half-marathon PB, then tell me what it means for London.
A spring half marathon or 10K is the best evidence of current fitness you’ll get during the build. Ask Claude, or ChatGPT on a supported plan, to save the new time with its date, and the next conversation starts from it. What to update after a race covers the rest.
When the goal needs to change
My calf has cost me three weeks. Should I change my goal from sub-4 to finishing comfortably?
A good coach is honest when the target no longer fits the build. Once you’ve decided, update the goal in Athmex, so every later answer is aimed at the race you’re now running.
In race week
My race is on Saturday. Plan my last five days, including travel to London on Thursday.
Race week is about arriving fresh, with travel, sleep, meals and your pacing plan settled. What to tell ChatGPT or Claude before race day lists what the conversation needs.

Where AI help stops
A marathon build is long enough for small misunderstandings to add up. ChatGPT or Claude can misjudge a goal, pacing you off the target rather than your fitness, or suggest more than your body can take, so read its plan critically and check it against how you feel.
Pain that changes how you run, illness, fainting or anything medical needs a doctor or physio. No AI can examine you.
London Marathon questions
Can ChatGPT make a London Marathon training plan?
Yes. ChatGPT or Claude can draft and adapt a London Marathon plan. It’s more useful when it knows your race day, goal, recent race times with dates, current running, available days and constraints. Athmex keeps those ready, so you don’t retype them in every conversation.
What should Claude know before planning my London build?
Your race day, your goal, recent race times with their dates, how much you run now, which days you can train, fixed sessions such as club nights, and any injuries or commitments the plan has to fit around.
Which 2027 London Marathon date should I use in my plan?
Use the day on your entry. The 2027 London Marathon runs over Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 April, and each runner takes part on one of those days. If your day isn’t confirmed yet, plan around the Saturday so the build isn’t a day short, then update your race when you know.
Where does the London Marathon take place?
The London Marathon is a 42.2 km road race in London, UK. It starts around Greenwich in south-east London and finishes on The Mall. Your entry information confirms your own start details.
